This particular net, the CN-FTHN Fire Truck Hose Net is definitely worth mentioning because of its ease of use. It was designed specifically for a fire truck that carries its hose up on top lengthwise from front to back.
Bob from the Millgrove Fire Department in Alben, NY needed a custom net made for his fire rig that would contain the hose on top of the truck while at the same time allowing some of the firemen to walk on top of the hose if necessary and the net, without it getting all tangled up and difficult to work on or with as they were having trouble with the bungee net they were using.
“We are looking for a cargo net that would be 17’ long and 4’ wide. The preferred construction would be 1” black webbing with 6” holes with attachment loops like on your Fruit Truck net, every foot.”
We designed the net based on the contour of the cargo space and the fire hose and engineered it to attach to custom anchors on the long sides and the front of the rig. On the back of the rig, they need to be able to quickly remove the hose from underneath the net. So, the net actually remains in place on top, and when they need to pull the hose out quickly, they simply flip up the back part of the net, which hangs down over the top back area of the truck. Using the 1” steel rings that we sewed in gives it a little bit of weight on the back end to keep it in place while in transit to a fire. They simply stand on the back of the truck, quickly flip up the rings which releases the hose to be pulled out quickly and without interruption.
This design helps fire departments stay within code based on cargo restraint requirements by state, saving lives not only if the truck itself has an accident and the hose gets loose, God forbid, or simply to save time when they respond to a fire and lives are at stake.
