The Rockinator Tailgate Gap Cover is the ultimate in bed accessories related to protecting the gap at the tailgate of your pickup truck and keeping it from getting damaged due to whatever material you’re sweeping or pushing out with a broom.
Whether you just want to protect your gap and paint in general, or you need to use something to bridge the gap between the truck bed and your tailgate for debris such as rocks, chips, hay and the like while you’re sweeping it out, the Rockinator is your only sensible option. We went the old-fashioned route and made a much stronger, long lasting eye-catching alternative, in a one size that fits any truck. We use a tough black fabric (kind of like Cordura) that has a second flap, we sew on a male piece of commercial grade sticky back hook and loop (also referred to as Velcro) on each flap, and install the female sticky part of the hook and loop under the plastic bedliner at the back of the bed and the tailgate and “Voila”, you’re golden.
Others before us have tried and failed. They use a glue-on method that usually leaves the front sweeping side vulnerable to dirt and small rocks getting jammed in there, leaving you with more of a nightmare than you originally thought. With the Rockinator, you pay a bit more but you get your money’s worth with a custom product that’s sewn right here in the good old USA and once installed properly you never need to mess with it again.
We recommend you leave it in so you always have a stable connection with the included hook and loop. It’s not going to get all jammed up and possibly not stick properly like some of the others you’ll see out there now. It also looks a heck of a lot better than a piece of wide duct tape which seems to be the only current solution other than wasting your money on a $25 cheapie plus shipping garbage bound unit.
Ours is a one size solution to any truck. It’s built for full size truck beds but if you’re bed is more narrow for example like a compact or mid-size truck, just grab a real sharp pair of scissors, and you give it the final size adjustment yourself or fold it over under the bedliner in case you get a bigger truck later.
When mounting the sticky back hook and loop, just be careful that you install it correctly the first time. If you stray, we’ll hook you up with replacement sticky hook and loop, but honestly it’s available in most hardware stores. Just measure the distance of what you need and get some extra to keep around just in case.
