Custom Cargo Net ‘Shark Sling’ Used for Tagging Sharks in San Francisco Bay

We make a lot of custom cargo nets for pickup trucks and many other vehicles including vans. On our website cargocatch.com you’ll only see about 30 cargo nets on that custom cargo net page, but in reality we have hundreds of designs available and you’ll see those appear on the site in due time.

Sometimes we do some really cool projects, and one of those projects that we’re really proud of was the ‘shark sling’ for the Ocean Research Foundation in San Francisco, California. Although designed by the Executive Director of ORF Steven Shirley, we manufactured it for him about a year ago and they just now used it for the first time on August 8th, 2015 while tagging sharks in the San Francisco Bay.

Last week, Steve and Tom from ORF worked on the new cargo net sling we made for the sharks and got prepared to go tagging in SF bay. They assembled the rods and got their leaders, bait, ice and safety gear together and then washed and gassed up the boat. Then on Saturday morning they headed out to Berkeley Marina to prep for the trip. After just 30 minutes they landed and worked up a spiny dog fish shark then another one. Then over 2 more hours they were able to land, work up, tag and release unharmed 8 Sevengill sharks. The largest being about 250 pounds.

Steve contacted us shortly after their trip on Saturday indicating that the custom net shark sling was working great.
