10 Things to Bring When Going Camping

When you are planning to go camping, one thing that you know is that there are a lot of things you forget to bring. That is why it’s essential that you have a list of the things that you should always bring with you. Before you go camping the next time, put the things below in a bag so that you’re always going to have them with you.

1. First Aid Supplies

Bumps, scratches, cuts and burns, chances are that you’re going to experience one of these during camping. So you want to bring first aid supplies with you. It should be coming with you camping and make sure that it goes with you hiking, too.

2. Matches

Unless you were boy scout, you want to have some types of fire starter. If you don’t have a fire, you’re going to have limited options when it comes to food and nights are going to be a lot colder. You want to make sure you have plenty of matches and put them in something to keep them from getting wet.

3. Rope

There are a lot of things that you can use rope for when you are camping, particularly if you know a lot of knots to tie. You can use it as a place to hang up your wet clothes, hang coolers from the trees overnight, make shelter, or get people out of tight situations during a swim or hike. This is something that you definitely want to have with you when camping.

4. Tarps

No matter if you’re going to use your tarps for protecting your tent’s bottom or to give you more shelter at the campsite, one or two tarps will be a great choice. They’re simple to fold. They also are only going to take up a little space in your pack.

5. Peanut Butter

This makes a great snack and has an extended shelf life. It also has multiple purposes that you may not even have known about. It has lots of protein and fat and it is a good item to take with you anytime you go camping. Along with making a great snack on bread, you can use it for removing gum from hair or just eat it from the jar.

6. Spices

Chances are that you don’t under-season when you are cooking at home. The same should be true when you’re camping. Portable spice racks come in plastic and they make a great choice for putting into your camping bag. They’re small and they’re simple to pack. Even better, they’re difficult to break.

7. Flashlight, Headlamp, or Lantern

No matter if you’re going to use the bathroom when it’s dark or you want a snack, it’s important to have some kind of light with you when you are camping. Make sure the light source is simple to reach in your car if you get to the camp site after it’s dark.

8. Compass and Maps

Chances are that your phone has a GPS and you might have one in the car. The bad news is that it’s sometimes hard to get a signal in the remote spots, or if you’re hiking in the woods. A compass and a map is essential to have with you in case you’re not able to use your phone’s GPS.

9. Different Types of Clothes

Even though you have checked the forecast and they’re saying it’s going to be clear sailing all the way, it’s always good to have some layers with you since weathermen have been known to be wrong as we all know. The weather has the ability to change without warning. When you have other clothing options, you’ll make sure that you can get dry or keep warm if the temperatures plummet.

10. Pocket Knife

These are also called Swiss Army Knives, and they’re the best item to take with you for a variety of reasons. First, they don’t take up hardly any space when you’re packing. It also comes with a variety of tools all in one, corkscrew, knife, scissors and a lot more. This means that you have a bunch of essentials for camping in a compact and easily packed item.
